  • March 27th, 1873 - Sherman is renamed to Kingman.[1]
  • September 7th, 1873 - Despite several advertisements for Kingman, the Daily Commonwealth reports that: "Any one who has watched the progress and event of a county seat election in Kansas will be ready to admit that this offers no stumbling block to Kingman county even, which so far as we know is populated only by prairie dogs and coyotes."[2]
  • November 6th, 1873 - Additionally, the Girard Press states: "Passed through Kingman County. This county is said to be organized, but we saw but 2 settlers in the entire county, and these were 15 miles apart. They could climb on the top of some of those high barren hills, and truly say: 'I am monarch of all I survey.'"[3]
  • December 10th, 1873 - More mention of the fraudulent organization of Kingman County happens when The Daily Commonwealth states that the state auditor has mentioned bonds being sent for registration from Kingman township, despite not existing.[4]
